Caring for Your Linen

Linen is one of the most breathable and enduring fabrics in any wardrobe. With its large, hollow flax fibres and loose weave, it allows for exceptional air circulation while sitting away from your skin to keep you cool. Highly absorbent and naturally moisture-wicking, linen actually improves with age, becoming softer the more it's washed.
Below, we've outlined the key steps to care for your linen garments correctly so they last the distance.
Machine washing on a very hot setting can weaken fibres over time. Whenever possible, hand wash your linen in lukewarm or cold water using a mild soap or gentle detergent. If you must machine wash, use a delicate cycle.
Linen is highly absorbent, so always wash it separately from other fabrics. Avoid harsh detergents or bleaches, as these can leave marks and destroy the fabric's dyes.

To best preserve the garment's shape, air dry naturally in a shady spot. Hanging your linen garments on a coat hanger to dry is ideal to avoid unsightly peg marks. We recommend avoiding the dryer altogether. However, if tumble drying is necessary, use a low, cool setting and ensure it does not get hot.
Do not dry-clean linen garments, as the chemical process weakens the flax fibres and shortens the life of your garment.

Linen is designed to have a relaxed, lived-in look and feel, so embrace its natural texture. If you prefer a pressed finish:
• Turn the garment inside-out and iron while the fabric is still slightly damp for best results.
• For stubborn wrinkles, lay a damp, light-colored cloth over the linen and run a warm iron across it on the steam setting.

For everyday wear, keep your linen on coat hangers in your wardrobe; it easily holds its shape without special care. When storing pieces at the end of the season, ensure they are clean and placed in a cool, dry spot. Try to store your favourite items as flat as possible to prevent deep-set creasing and wrinkling.
